HEC Lausanne EMBA moves up 20 places in Financial Times Top 100

The EMBA Class of 2019 throwing their caps in the air at graduation

Moving up 20 places, we have reached the 70th position in the 2022 edition of the highly anticipated Financial Times Top 100 Executive MBA ranking.

We are proud to announce that for the 11th consecutive year, our programme is featured in this globally recognised ranking.

While about half of the programmes listed are located in Europe, only 4 Swiss-based EMBAs made it to the top 100.

Being featured in the FT’s ranking has a positive impact on our reputation and thus on our participants and Alumni. This validates the quality of their learning and increases the value of their diploma. It is actually on their successes that a large part of the ranking is based.

What are the Financial Times’ ranking criteria?

The evaluation criteria used by the Financial Times Top 100 Executive MBA Ranking is structured around three themes :

The first category of criteria, called “Career Progress“, represents 56% of the rating. Mainly financial data are compared to measure the programme’s impact on the participants’ careers.

The second category of observation aims to capture “School Diversity”. The collected data monitor the gender and nationality of the students and academic bodies. Taken together, these ranking criteria account for just over a quarter (25%) of the programme’s score.

The academic excellence, labelled “Research/ESG“, is then assessed using the percentage of teaching staff with a PhD and the quality of the faculty’s research. Finally, one must add to these two measures an “Environmental, social and governance (ESG) rank”, to reach the remaining 18% that will determine the placement (or absence) of a programme.

Financial Times also shares the level of satisfaction of the students surveyed. However, this score (from 1 to 10) does not enter in the final score calculation.

Where does HEC Lausanne Executive MBA stand on FT’s criteria?

As a world-class programme, HEC Lausanne Executive MBA scores well in all three sets of criteria examined.

Career Progress

To measure the impact of our EMBA on our Alumni’s careers, FT surveyed our 2019 class. It was observed that on average graduates receive a 45% increase in salary. This represents a salary increase of about 50’000CHF (three years after graduation).

On a personal development level, It is also interesting to note that our Alumni estimate that, after only 3 years, they have achieved 74% of the goals they set for themselves when joining the HEC Executive MBA.

The quality of our students shines not only in their diversity (see below) but also in their professional success. Our programme is ranked 15th worldwide on the candidates’ “Work Experience”.

School diversity

If there is one category in which we strive to excel, it is the diversity of our participants. We have the highest percentage of female students (43%) among the Switzerland-based EMBA featured. In addition to being the first in Switzerland, we are in the European top 5 regarding classes’ gender balance.

While ensuring a good gender balance in our classes is a priority, we are also proud to welcome numerous international candidates (70%). We have the 2nd most international class in Switzerland and are among the top 20 European EMBA featured in FT’s 2022 ranking. The international background of our professors is also highlighted in the score.

Research

Being attached to HEC Lausanne, it is not surprising that our Executive MBA is also well-rated in terms of research. We are in fact at the top of the “FT research ranking” in Switzerland.

Satisfaction

Although the level of satisfaction does not weigh in the final score, we are delighted to be #1 in Switzerland in this respect, with a score of 9.46. This honourable result places us in the European top 10 in terms of participants’ satisfaction.

Graduation of the EMBA Class of 2019

We are honoured to be among the best Executive MBAs in the world. The quality and work of our candidates, alumni, teachers, lecturers and staff are the reasons why we have been featured for 11 years in the Financial Times Top 100 Executive MBA ranking.

A special thank you goes to the Class of 2019 for their support and for taking the time to complete the Financial Times survey.
